General Enquiries

When's the due date?
This zine is meant to celebrate the 16th anniversary of Rin & Len act2, and should come out during the summer. We will decide on a release date once we know for sure how many contributors will want to be involved in the zine – that’s what the interest check is for!

What is the theme of the entries?
Participants are encouraged to create a piece inspired by a Kagamine song of choice. They can base it on existing PVs, or come up with more personal interpretations (especially if the song chosen has no official PV in the first place). This goes for both artists and writers.

Does the entry have to include both Rin and Len?
It’s a case-by-case basis, but technically, yes – we strongly encourage it as the zine is a celebration for both of them. It’s fine if one of them ends up at the center of the piece as long as the other Kagamine is featured. In any case, we would like to refrain from having any other Vocaloid as the main focus of the piece (but they can certainly feature as background/side characters).

Is there any age or content restriction on entries?
We would like to keep it SFW – nothing that goes beyond a “Teen” rating, as some participants may be underage, and we would like everyone to be able to enjoy the zine. If you need further clarification on this, feel free to reach out to a mod.

Are there any restrictions on how Rin and Len should be depicted?
No. Many songs depict Rin and Len in a variety of different ways. We'd like the zine to reflect and celebrate all interpretations of them. There will be no limits as to what themes you can or can't depict, as long as they’re SFW/within reason. Just pick the ones you're personally excited about!

Submission Enquiries

Will sample works be required when applying?
Yes, participants will be asked to submit a few examples of their works and/or a link to some form of online portfolio.

Is there a specific size/ppi for the art?
Artworks will be expected to follow a 300 dpi A4 format.

Is there a word count required for writers?
Yes – there is no minimum, but we would like writers to keep their submission under 3000 words.

Will writers and artists collaborate with each other if they end up using the same song?
All pieces will be kept separate. If an artist and writer both end up working on the same song, they’ll be free to come up with their own takes independently.

What are the song options?
As long as you’re able to provide a link to the song of your choice (via Niconico, YouTube, etc.), there is no limit! We will also provide a playlist of roughly 100 Kagamine songs we collated as examples for those who may need ideas or inspiration – but we accept songs from outside this playlist as well.

How will the songs be assigned to participants?
When we open applications, we will ask participants to send in a minimum of three songs they would be interested in creating a piece for. Once we’ve closed applications, we’ll review everyone’s choices and allocate one of their chosen songs to avoid any overlap. Please note that an applicant’s song choice will only become relevant once they’ve been accepted – we won’t reject anyone because they submitted popular songs. Additionally, we’re thinking of randomising allocations for songs that have been selected by more than one person.
As much as we would like to give everyone their number one choice, unfortunately, there are some songs that may be more in demand than others, and may end up getting submitted by multiple applicants. We strive to make it as fair as possible, and do not want anyone missing out on getting a song of their choice, so we hope that participants being able to submit three of their favourite songs will make such a scenario unlikely.

Other Enquiries

Is this your first time running a zine?/Have you experienced running a collaboration before?
While we have participated in collaborations in the past, neither of the mods have had experience with running collaborative projects. We’re aware this can raise a number of concerns. In order to prevent major issues, we’re working to limit the size of the project and we’ll make sure to communicate regularly with participants!

How long will the production process take?
We’ll set up a proper schedule once the interest check is over. It depends on the final number of participants.

Which platform will be used once the production process starts?
We’ll set up a Discord server once applications are closed, and use email otherwise to stay in touch with those who opt out of the server.
